TransomA unique entrant in the (crowded) world of 20 ft. sportboats is the Finot designed Open 5.70.  Finot is famous for designing the Open 60’s, Open 50’s and other cutting-edge boats for shorthanded ocean racing.  The Open 5.70 is the result of applying that background to a sportboat – a wide “skimming dish” hull, a rotating rig normally found on a catamaran, a square top main, double rudders, and an asymmetrical spinnaker on a spit.  As with the Open 60's, the wide transom allows for a long traveler track, no need for a boom vang, and a boom that is mounted as low as possible.

The construction is straightforward, and well-done, with a solid fiberglass hull that uses it's rounded shape for stiffness, a foam cored deck, and aluminum spars

The Open 5.70 can't claim to be the fasted, most overpowered, or most radical of boats in this range (nor would it want to), but it does a good job of being among the simplest – without unnecessary adjustments.
